Its an interesting thing you know, getting to view an era of war through a journalists eyes. And it turns out, its not typically what you’d think it would be. I really found myself understanding things better, it really wasn’t just for laughs it had its dramatizations as well. This had Tiny Fey’s dry sense of humor all over it, and her character went through a roller coaster ride. Being a reporter, she seemed very negligent at times. Of course in an environment like this, who do you really trust? Living in a world so chaotic, it almost becomes on the inner core a suspenseful peace of literature. I guess Fey wrote the script, that I am certainly not certain of but it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Her character develops throughout, into the true definition of what a journalist is supposed to be. She makes the War in Iraq very personal, and as she goes along finds out that things aren’t what they seem. Fighting to get the news where she believes that it ought to be, while the powers that be push back against her efforts. This is charming as hell, it has so many things to offer a movie fan. Where it kind of delves off of its course, is she all of a sudden is frightened and gets pushed off of her mission statement. Which I felt in the end was alright, but it would have made more sense for her to continue down that path I think.
Movies like this sometimes lose what they set out to accomplish, is this a documentation film? About the anguish of War torn countries, and what it does to the people involved, is this a love story buried deep within trying to be romantic? It just kind of makes me wonder what they were trying to do here, I am all for mix and matching. Don’t get me wrong, I get wish they’d picked a main objective. And kinda stuck with that, and maybe I would have rated it higher? Fey and her supporting cast are sensational to this however, without them it more than likely would have fallen flat completely. I enjoyed certain things, but others a lot of it was left to be desired.
You know what I find so ridiculous in our world? We have potential to expand our reach into Space, doing things right now that guys like Tesla and other scientists only had wet dreams about. And what are we concerned with? A little ole terrorist cell in the middle east, WE HAVE AN ENTIRE UNIVERSE AT OUR DISPOSAL!!!! There’s potential all around us, we haven’t even explored half of the deepest parts of our oceans. And all you can think about is if our Supreme Court doesn’t rule to your liking. Thinking so small, is why people succumb to horrific acts like prejudice/racism. If we got on board, and did some actual real stuff. Think of all that would be possible, we’d never fight again as a people.
Real shit would get accomplished, I’m not saying we don’t get bombarded with distractions daily. We do, and its just as much the fault of the corrupt media as anyone else. However if we thought bigger than we do, just think about the possibilities. Maintaining a system of Government, just for the sake of security has to be the least of your worries. If you wanna actually expand, just look into the sky at night on a clear evening. And tell me we haven’t missed the mark, tell me our capacity for mass awareness has been accomplished. IT HASN’T!!! And we should be ashamed!! We just haven’t even begun, and that should worry us greatly.
Brexit represents something I feel, is a clear indication of those being pushed down by the hierarchy are no longer willing to comply. It is nothing short of a populace majority revolt, and a dismissal of consistent fear mongering. It shows us that the citizens still have the power, and you know something whether you like Bernie Sanders or not. Or the complete opposite of the spectrum Donald Trump. They have woken up something in this world, that can no longer be smothered. If we handled things like the UK did, peacefully rising up in one voice saying “We aren’t putting up with your abuse anymore, you don’t get to decide for us anymore”.
Then this world would be in a completely difference place, because that perfectly states what it takes to get real change done!!! Not bureaucrats sitting in rooms, until someone acts. Not the constant polished discourse that leads to little or nothing. Not even pundits making laws, that will only be enforced by a system that is clearly being shown time after time to be shattered beyond repair. Real change, that doesn’t happen until we say enough is enough. Brexit is a call to action, whether you agree with the result or not. As we draw closure to July the 4th in this country, we need truly remember what power by the people for the people means. We all have it in us, we just have to know how to use it.
